RONNIE JAMES DIO's Father Dies At 92

Pat Padavona, the father of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2010 at Cortland Care Center in Cortland, New York. Pat, 92, was laid to rest on January 11 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cortland. He served his country during World War II. He enjoyed working with his hands, making many pieces of fine furniture and accent pieces.

Pat is survived by his daughter-in-law, Wendy Dio-Padavona, his brother Johnny, his grandson Danny and wife Terri Padavona, and his great-grandchildren Joey and Julia Padavona. Pat was pre-deceased by his wife Anna and his son Ronnie.

Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer on the morning of May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.

He was renowned throughout the world as one of the greatest and most influential vocalists in heavy metal history.

The singer, who was recording and touring with SABBATH offshoot HEAVEN & HELL prior to his illness, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in late 2009. He underwent chemotherapy and made what is now his final public appearance in April 2010 at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.
